These two grew up in the far corners of North America—Josh is from California and Heather is from Newfoundland—and yet they couldn’t be better suited to each other. In that same vein, this wedding was a blend of the sunny, warm Californian disposition and the humour and wit only Newfies can bring. It was a real party!!!!
Heather and Josh’s Shining Waters Wedding
All week leading up to the wedding, the weather forecast predicted rain. So the morning of the wedding, we weren’t surprised when it rained buckets, and everything was dripping wet. But as the morning slowly broke into afternoon, the sun finally came out and dried up all traces of the rain, clearing up the path to begin the fun festivities.
When I arrived to start photographing Heather getting ready, I was touched by the thoughtful gift that Heather’s mom had given everyone. She sewed her veil and her mother’s veil together for handkerchiefs that Heather and all the ladies could take home as keepsakes. Each of them held a piece of family history in their hands to bring with them in their journey together. This sweet gesture had us feeling ALL the feels, and everyone (including me) cried.
Speaking of veils, Heather’s veil had a mind of its own! Most of the time, I have to work to stage those dramatic shots of a veil blowing in the wind. But during the ceremony, I didn’t have to do a thing. Everyone laughed and cheered as Heather’s veil blew in literally every direction!
There were so many details like that which had us all either laughing or crying. For example, Heather and Josh took the time to have custom rings made by their favourite jeweller to reflect their personality and love.

I was also thrilled with the fact that Heather and Josh were up for anything when it came to pictures. These adventurous souls hiked up Polly’s Cove with me and rocked some pictures together—though my favourite images were the ones we were able to get in the hot second that we call the golden hour. The vows and ceremony were all done, and there was nothing left to do but enjoy ourselves, but Heather and Josh were still willing to sneak off with me to go to the small beach next to Shining Waters. We could hear the merriment nearby, but in that moment, everything was peaceful and perfect as we soaked in the last few minutes of the sun.
Josh & Heather, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your day and trusting me to capture your legacy and love. Thanks also to Joce Events for making sure the day ran perfectly and to True North for keeping the dance floor bumping all night long!
