Rainy Day Halifax Weddings

When you get married, you want your day to be as perfect and magical as you always imagined it would be, right? Well, you can plan for everything, you can have the very best people, but sometimes, Mother Nature doesn’t agree with your plans. So, what do you do when Nova Scotia decides to rain on your wedding day?

While a few rainclouds might bring down the mood of the party, it doesn’t have to ruin everything. Here are some ways you can turn a rainy Nova Scotia day into more fun at your wedding.

Rainy Wedding Photography Tip 1: Light the rain!

The nice thing about hiring wedding photographers worth their salt is that we know how to make magic out of those raindrops. In fact, we had a snowy blizzard image featured in People magazine! If you know what you’re doing and you’re willing to get creative, you can use the weather as an opportunity for a one-of-a-kind wedding shoot.

Rainy Wedding Photography Tip 2: Seek creative shelter!

On the one hand, if you don’t want to get wet on your wedding day, the best thing you can do is find somewhere fun to stay out of the rain. This is a great chance to get some intimate, cozy portraits of the two of you, too. Whether it’s tree cover, overhangs, or boats, some of our couples have gotten incredibly creative over the years, and we’ve gotten some amazing moments—and photographs—out of their ingenuity!

Rainy Wedding Photography Tip 3: Get wet!

This might sound crazy after you spent all that time finding exactly the dress you want or exactly the right tux . . . but if it’s really raining cats and dogs, why fight it? This is your wedding day, and you won’t get another one. Embrace it! You won’t regret having the time of your life on your big day, so why not let loose? Run into the ocean, stand out in the rain—whatever you do, just remember to have fun!

Rainy Wedding Photography Tip 4: Use a smoke bomb!

This piece of advice might only be for the brave of heart, but it’s still plenty of fun. The wet humidity that the rain brings along with it makes for the ideal setting for a bit of fun and drama in your wedding photography. Combine bad weather and some serious smoke, and you get those bold images that you can’t help but grin over.

Rainy Wedding Photography Tip 5: Be patient!

If nothing else, the best thing you can do is just wait! After photographing 115 weddings in Nova Scotia, we have yet to see a day that was rainy the entire time. If you really want those outdoor photos without the rain, be patient . . . and then dash outside when you see the weather start to clear!

Whatever you decide to do when the weather messes with your plans, remember: this is your big day. Don’t let a little rain get you down!
