How to Rock Halifax Wedding Shows

As the holidays wind down to a close, it can mean only one thing. It’s time for wedding shows! If you are planning a 2019 wedding, attending an upcoming Halifax wedding show should be on your wedding prep checklist! But attending a wedding show can be a little overwhelming! As a Halifax wedding photographer who has rocked many wedding shows, and shot over 150 Halifax weddings, I’ve got the inside scoop for you.

In this post, I’m going to share my best tips to rock your next Halifax wedding show which is Brides 2019! Between my wedding day experience, my knowledge of local vendors, and a few wedding shows under my belt, I have a ton of wedding experience. I want you to have the best Halifax wedding show possible, so I hope to help you learn what to focus on to maximize your time and to have the best wedding planning experience possible!

Pro Tips for your Halifax Wedding Show

Want to make sure that you have the best Halifax wedding show experience? I’m here for you. From having a plan to having the right footwear, here are my best tips to help you rock your wedding show experience.

Pro Tip 1: Assess where you are in your wedding planning

First, it’s important to know where you are in your planning process. Are you newly engaged and getting ideas? Or are you only a few months out? Knowing where you are in your wedding planning process can help you narrow down what vendors are the most important to talk to. Have a list of vendors you’d like to talk to going into your wedding show to keep yourself organized.

If you’re newly engaged, focus on talking to venues and wedding photographers. Both your wedding venue and your wedding photography are critical first decisions. Those two items will shape the rest of your wedding day! Also, keep in mind, many popular Halifax wedding photographers and wedding venues book out a year in advance—or more!

Do you have your venue, photographer and date locked in? It’s time to focus on florists, bakeries, music, invitations and other décor. These vendors can fall into place later on into your planning process.

Pro Tip 2: Map it out

Now that you’ve narrowed down who you want to talk to, take a peek at the wedding show floor plan to help plan out and use your time wisely. Wedding shows are often spread out across a huge venue, so it can be a tad difficult to figure out where to go just by browsing. Get a copy of the floor plan and make sure you highlight the vendors you most want to visit.

Pro Tip 3: Be Comfortable!

While we’re talking about that floorplan, I want you to know that you will be tracking lots of steps on the day of the wedding show! Make sure you are prepared for the journey of many steps and crowds of people! Think about comfortable footwear, because you might not have a chance to sit down for a while. Wear layers! It can get HOT in there with all of the people, especially at busy areas of the show. While you will probably end up getting a TON of wedding show information and gear, it would also be helpful to bring a bag that you’re comfortable carrying.. So, if you have a favorite back pack or shoulder bag, it might be a good idea to bring it.  And maybe a few snacks, while you’re at it!

Pro Tip 4: Think about what you'd like to ask each vendor

At a wedding show, vendors are there in person, so you can have a real conversation! It’s much better than browsing a website because you can ask the questions that are most important to you and your partner! In order to make sure you have a chance to ask the things that are most important to you, create a list of questions in advance. Think about questions like:

  • Where can I read your testimonials?

  • How far in advance do you book?

  • How many weddings have you been hired for?

  • What kind of experience do you have?

  • How do you prepare me for my wedding?

And finally, my Ultimate Pro tip:

Ask the vendors who they would recommend working with. Here in the Halifax wedding industry, we have the distinct honor of working with our favourite people again and again. These wedding industry insiders will refer you to the best people for your day.

I hope that my Halifax wedding show experience helps you to have a productive and stress-free wedding show! This is an exciting time in your life, and your wedding vendors are here to help you.
